Guatemala

Guatemala is a country rich in culture, history, and natural beauty, yet many of its communities face the daily challenges of poverty, limited access to education, and unstable employment. To meet these needs, our nonprofit established an orphanage in Sololá to provide a safe and nurturing home for children who have been abandoned, orphaned, or come from families unable to provide adequate care. At our orphanage, children receive not only food, shelter, and education but also love and hope for a brighter future. The orphanage is led by María López, who oversees daily operations with compassion and dedication. You can reach María at +502-555-123-4567 or maria.lopez@ourorphanage.org.

Support Our Work in Guatemala

In addition to child sponsorships offered directly through the orphanage, which allow donors to support the care and education of an individual child, we also run Mission: Guatemala—a project designed to empower rural women with access to microloans so they can invest in sewing, livestock, looms, and gardening, building sustainable livelihoods for their families and communities. Your generosity can make a tangible difference: Helper — $50, Sustainer — $100, Builder — $250, Advocate — $500, Visionary — $1,000.

First Harvest Shared Across the Community

First Harvest Shared Across the Community This month, we celebrated our very first harvest! Students and caregivers gathered to pick fresh vegetables from the school and orphanage gardens, and together they prepared a meal that was enjoyed by everyone. For many children, it was the first time they tasted food they had helped plant and grow themselves — and the pride on their faces said it all. Beyond the orphanage and school, families in the community have also begun sharing their first small harvests with neighbors. This spirit of generosity is at the heart of our vision. Not only are we seeing improved nutrition, but also stronger connections between families who are working side by side to grow food and hope for the future.

Community Training Workshops Launched

Community Training Workshops Launched After the initial success of the orphanage and school gardens, we expanded into the surrounding community with our first round of training workshops. Families gathered to learn practical gardening skills such as crop rotation, composting, and natural pest management. Each participant received a starter seed kit, and many have already begun planting in their own yards. The workshops have created a wonderful sense of momentum. Parents shared stories of their children coming home from school eager to help water or check on the plants. Several families who had previously depended on purchasing most of their food are now excited to grow part of their meals right outside their doors.
